What is a peeling?
The treatment
The skin renews itself every 28 days, but this process can be delayed by various factors. Among other things, the phase of life we live in, influenced by hormones, can cause skin problems. These can manifest as acne, shiny skin, enlarged pores, fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.
Skin aging is caused by both genetic and environmental mechanisms. The aging mechanism is in our DNA, but external factors such as stress, sunlight, and free radicals also contribute to skin aging.
How do we improve the skin through peels?
By removing dead skin cells and penetrating the deeper layers of the skin, the peel stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen. This collagen production plumps up the skin, reducing wrinkles and giving it a fresher appearance. It also normalizes sebum production and addresses active acne.
The types of chemical peels that exist are:
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA): glycolic acid, lactic acid and mandelic acid
- Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA): salicylic acid
- Tricholic acid (TCA)
The depth, intensity, and effectiveness of peels can vary and depend on factors such as the concentration of the ingredients. At Clinique Elixir, we offer both superficial and deep peels that can be used for various indications.
The number of treatments you need varies depending on the indication, but you can assume a course of 3-5 treatments, repeated every 2-4 weeks for optimal results.
