What is a peel?

The treatment

The skin renews itself every 28 days, this process can slow down due to various factors. Among other things, the life phase in which we live under the influence of hormones causes skin problems. This can manifest itself in: acne, shiny skin, large pores, fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

Skin aging is due to both genetic and environmental mechanisms. Our DNA contains the aging mechanism, but external factors such as: stress, sunlight, free radicals also cause skin aging.

How do we improve the skin through peels?

By removing the dead skin cells and the peeling penetrates into the deeper skin layers, the fibroblasts will be stimulated to produce more collagen. This collagen production provides a filling and therefore fewer wrinkles and a fresh appearance. It will also normalize sebum production and active acne will be tackled.

The types of chemical peels that exist are:

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA): glycolic acid, lactic acid and mandelic acid
  • Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA): salicylic acid
  • Tricholacetic Acids (TCA)

The depth, intensity and effectiveness of the peels can vary and depend on, among other things, the concentration of the ingredients. At Clinique Elixir we have both superficial and deep peels that can be used for different indications.

The number of treatments you need differs per indication, but you can assume a course of 3-5 treatments that is repeated every 2-4 weeks for optimal results.
