More about hair loss

What is Hair Loss?

A person has an average of 100,000 hairs on the head, of which an average of 50-120 hairs fall out per day. This is often the normal growth process of the hair, the old hairs make room for new hairs. Hair grows in cycle, namely the anagen catagen and telogen phase. The scalp hairs are on average 80 - 90% in the growth phase (anagen phase). The anagen phase lasts longest often somewhere between 2 – 7 years (the longer your hair the longer this phase lasts). Various factors as mentioned below influence this. After the growth phase comes the transition phase (catagen phase), this phase lasts the shortest about 2-4 weeks. 10-15% of the hairs are in the catagen phase and will pass to the resting phase (telogen phase). In this phase, the new hair will start to grow again while the old hair is still resting in the hair follicle. The telogen phase lasts on average 3 months after which the hairs fall out (exogenous phase). After this, the hair growth cycle starts again at the anagen phase and the cycle will repeat itself.

However, there are people who lose too much hair, which often makes the hair thinner. Too many of the hairs therefore go into the resting phase (telogen phase) and eventually fall out. In fact, you want to ensure that the growth phase (anagen phase) lasts the longest, so that you lose as little hair as possible. The question is, can you take care of this?

How does hair loss occur?

Hereditary factors

The most common form of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia. This shape causes the hairline to thin, eventually extending to the back and top of the head. The culprit of this hereditary form of baldness is the DHT hormone. This hormone occurs in men and women and influences the growth phases and the hair follicle. The anagen phase is shortened and the hair follicle shrinks, causing the hair to grow less and less and become thinner. This causes premature baldness, which is often experienced as psychologically, socially and cosmetically disturbing

Your health also plays a role in the hair growth cycle and hair loss. For example, little sleep and a lot of stress cause fluctuations in your hormones. In addition, a varied and healthy diet is also very important, a deficiency of vitamin A and iron are often associated with hair loss.

In addition, a slowed thyroid gland is sometimes the cause of thinning hair, also known as hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland produces too few hormones.

blood thinners, antidepressants and the birth control pill can affect hair loss. Ask your doctor about the side effects and possible alternatives.

Treat hair loss

At Clinique Elixir you can undergo mesotherapy XL Hair to stimulate hair growth. In practice we see very nice results with all non-scarring forms of alopecia.

Skin scan and intake

During the first consultation, the nature of your complaint will be discussed with the practitioner, so that a tailor-made treatment plan can be made. A good treatment plan starts with a skin analysis with the Observ520 skin scanner. The skin therapist can provide a detailed skin analysis about the deeper layers of the skin. You will also receive advice on products that you use at home to support and optimize the treatment. The results of the scan are stored and compared so that we can monitor the progress of the treatment.
