More about hyperpigmentation
What is hyperpigmentation?
Pigment is present in every skin type. Hyperpigmentation is an increase in pigment, which can manifest as age spots. There are different forms of hyperpigmentation, namely congenital and acquired (developing later).
The most common pigment disorders are:
- Lentigo solaris (age spots)
- Melasma (pregnancy mask)
- Ephelides (freckles)
- Acanthosis nigricans
How does hyperpigmentation develop?
The main causes of hyperpigmentation are: sun exposure, skin aging, skin inflammation (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), hormonal fluctuations (for example due to pregnancy or the pill) and genetic predisposition.

Skin scan and intake
During the initial consultation, the nature of your complaint will be discussed with the practitioner so that a personalized treatment plan can be created. A good treatment plan begins with a skin analysis using the Observ520 skin scanner. The skin therapist can provide a detailed analysis of the deeper layers of the skin. You will also receive advice on products to use at home to support and optimize the treatment. The scan results are stored and compared so we can monitor the progress of the treatment.
